– Mr. Kong Raya, together with his wife, sister and brother-in-law were arrested for posting t-shirts for sale which featured the image of Dr Kem Ley and highlighted a video of his murder. The group were taken to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Station and accused them by act of incitement under the Criminal Code, no formal charge is being made yet.
July 10, 2019,
– Approximately 70 to 80 civil representative from society representatives, trade union, associations and communities people were prohibited from gathering by around 80 to 100 mixed police at Borkor Caltex Gas Station to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the murder of Dr. Kem Ley. Police arrested two youths for placing flowers at the site of the murder. A third youth who arrested was Dr Kem Ley’s god-brother, Mr. Soung Neak Poin. He was arrested for sharing a letter which called on an end to extra-judicial killings.
– Other CSO, union and youth representatives were forced to remain inside the Caltex Mart and authorities did not permit them to bring any flowers with them to celebrate. Attendees were disallowed from wearing t-shirts with Dr Kem Ley’s face, with one representative, Tem Malai, forced to take the shirt off by authorities. Whilst CSOs were inside preparing coffee and jasmine flowers, authorities entered the Caltex Mart and seized the flowers to prevent any commemoration of his death. A Boeung Kak land activist was prevented from entering the Caltex Mart at all and upon arriving at the location was ushered away by the authorities.
– Leaders and activists of the Grassroot Democratic Party (GDP) were prohibited by mixed police from taking the flowers from its office to pay respect to Dr. Kem Ley.
