Ministry job fair to attract major firms
The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will collaborate with three major companies to provide job opportunities to young people and job seekers on Wednesday as part of its Monthly Interview programme held at the Phnom Penh JobCentre located within the ministry.
The ministry’s Facebook page said the three participating companies are Chamroeun Microfinance Plc, Elite Hospitality Trading Co Ltd and TH CVS Co Ltd (Circle K).
It said students and job seekers can take their CVs to apply in person and interview with company representatives from 8am to 5pm.
The ministry said: “The Monthly Interview programme is part of the government’s job mechanism to provide opportunities to the public, especially young job seekers, interns or those who want to change jobs. This makes it easier, it saves time and it’s in one place.”
Chhorm Sokhoeun, a Phnom Penh JobCentre officer who helped organise the event, said it will make a significant contribution to employers who need recruitment now and in the future.
He said job seekers should be prepared for an interview and have their CVs ready when they attend the event.
“This programme will strictly implement hygiene measures as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and ensure safety and confidence in the recruitment and employment opportunities for both employers and job seekers,” Sokhoeun said.
Moeun Tola, the executive director of the Centre for Alliance of Labour and Human Rights said on Tuesday that it is good that the companies declared their intention to recruit many workers. The government and the ministry have to find job opportunities and provide information to citizens, he said.
“I dare not say if it is true or not that the ministry declared to recruit great numbers of workers. There must be an investigation and specific observation. But from what I know, there are complaints from people working in microfinance because some institutions are finding ways to reduce staff,” he said.
Tola expressed hope that 200 jobs will be filled. It would help Cambodians, especially unemployed youths or those who lost their jobs because of Covid-19.
